Building a renewed culture

What is culture? I am sure anthropologists, philosophers, historians would contribute varying academic definitions. But, I think that each of us knows the elements that compose a culture: art, music, language, heritage, dance, religion, architecture, stories, values, etc. Not only these things separately for we each can form particular personal interests and skill in one or so of these categories.

But CULTURE. It must be shared. It must be understood across a group of individuals. It should be known because it is part of an inheritance gifted to each person who enters into it. It should be a symbol of belonging.

Isolation is the foil of culture. It does not destroy or make it nonexistent, so much as it renders it subdued, forgotten, and dormant.

So how do we build a culture especially in a place where isolation from people is prevalent? I suggest that this blog is a start in a new direction. A small group of us first acknowledging the need for more and now taking a small (perhaps slow) start to remedying it.

The few posts we made at this point have already started conversations and began to reveal more about one another!

I, for my part, will try to be a little more consistent :) Let's keep going!

Comment on what you think can keep building a culture!
